Worldwide Shipping Times for Ball Pit Balls: FCL vs LCL Door-to-Door by Country & Port

LogisticsFCL / LCLOctober 14, 2026
World map with shipping routes from China to major ports and scattered colorful ball pit balls - FCL and LCL door-to-door times

Most of our buyers ask the same question first: “when will the balls actually arrive?” The short answer is 12 to 62 days door-to-door depending on where you are. The longer answer is that the number depends on three things: how you ship (full container or shared container), which port you ship to, and how much production time your specific order needs. This guide lays out realistic, region-by-region door-to-door times from our Wenzhou / Ningbo base to the major ports we serve, for both FCL (full container) and LCL (shared container).

FCL or LCL: Which One Fits Your Order?

Before the regional tables, it helps to understand the two ways ocean cargo moves, because almost every time difference below comes back to this choice.

  • FCL (Full Container Load) - you book and pay for the whole container. It is stuffed at our factory, sealed with a bolt seal, and opened only at your warehouse. Fastest and safest; a sealed box is handled just twice.
  • LCL (Less than Container Load) - your balls share a container with other importers. They are trucked to a Container Freight Station (CFS), consolidated, sailed, then deconsolidated at the destination CFS before you collect them. Cheaper for small volumes, but slower and handled 4+ times.

For ball pit balls the decision is usually easy: the product is bulky and light, so a 40HQ fills up by volume (about 68 CBM) long before it reaches its weight limit. That means the great majority of our B2B orders are naturally full-container. LCL only makes sense for samples, trial orders, or small top-ups.

FCL vs LCL at a glance

How many balls fit a container?

Ball sizePer 40HQ (approx.)Volume used
55mm~400,000 balls~68 CBM (fills box)
70mm~200,000 balls~68 CBM (fills box)
80mm~150,000 balls~68 CBM (fills box)

Because volume - not weight - is the limiting factor, almost every commercial ball order crosses the FCL breakeven point. If you are ordering less than roughly one pallet, ask about LCL or air; otherwise FCL is both faster and cheaper per ball.

What “Door-to-Door” Means Here

Every range in the tables below already includes the full chain from our factory gate to your warehouse or distribution point:

  1. Production & packaging: 3-15 working days (the biggest swing - stock colors and repeat orders sit at the low end).
  2. Factory to port & export customs (Ningbo): 2-5 days.
  3. Ocean transit: shown per lane in each table.
  4. Import customs & inland delivery: 3-10 days (longer for complex customs regimes like Brazil).

Ocean transit is the pure port-to-port sailing time for a full container. FCL door-to-door adds production, export, import and inland. LCL door-to-door is the FCL door-to-door range plus roughly 7-15 days for CFS consolidation and deconsolidation. Plan against the high end of each range, and add a seasonal buffer in peak months.

Need It Faster? Air Freight and Split Shipments

Sea freight is cheapest but slowest. When the date cannot move, two faster options exist:

  • Air freight: door-to-door about 10-18 days. Cost is roughly 5-8x sea, so it is used for event-critical top-ups, not bulk.
  • Express courier: 5-8 days, samples only.
  • Split shipment (most common for events): send the quantity you need for the event by air, and the remaining bulk by sea. This protects the deadline without paying air rates on the whole order.

For fixed-date events - TV shoots, product launches, festivals, mall pop-ups - the rule is to order at least 3-4 weeks ahead even with air. Our dedicated order-lead-time guide explains the full split-shipment playbook and the recommended buffer for each scenario.

Seasonal Buffer to Add

PeriodAdd to your plan
Peak season (Sep-Dec, back-to-school)+3-7 days (port congestion, tighter vessel space)
Chinese New Year factory closure (late Jan / early Feb)+2-4 weeks if the order lands then
Custom color (Pantone / RAL)+7-10 days production for matching and sample confirmation
First-time import / new customs broker+3-7 days for broker setup and first clearance

Practical Tips to Protect Your Delivery Date

  • Book production before the sailing. A missed weekly sailing pushes the whole timeline by a week or more.
  • Send complete specs early. Size, color, quantity per color, packaging, destination port and target date - fewer Q&A rounds means an earlier start.
  • Prepare destination documents in advance. CE / EN71 for Europe, ASTM F963 / CPSIA for the USA, G-Mark for GCC toys. Customs delays are the most common cause of urgent orders going wrong.
  • Keep 5-10% spare inventory. Commercial pits lose 5-10% of balls per season to damage, cleaning discard or theft.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between FCL and LCL shipping?

FCL (Full Container Load) means you book and pay for the entire container - your goods are stuffed at our factory, sealed, and only opened at your warehouse. LCL (Less than Container Load) means your balls share a container with other importers' cargo: they are delivered to a Container Freight Station (CFS), consolidated with other shipments, then deconsolidated at the destination CFS before final delivery. For ball pit balls most orders are FCL because the product is bulky and light, so a container is usually filled by volume before it reaches weight limits.

How much cargo do I need before FCL is cheaper than LCL?

On most lanes the FCL/LCL breakeven sits around 10-15 CBM. A 40-foot high-cube container holds about 68 CBM - roughly 400,000 x 55mm balls, 200,000 x 70mm balls, or 150,000 x 80mm balls. Because balls fill a container by volume rather than weight, the great majority of our B2B orders are naturally full-container (FCL). LCL only makes sense for samples, trial orders, or top-up quantities well under a container.

How much longer does LCL take than FCL?

LCL adds about 3-7 days of Container Freight Station handling (consolidation at origin, deconsolidation at destination) on top of the same sailing. In total door-to-door, LCL typically lands 5-15 days later than FCL on the same lane - partly from handling and partly from waiting for enough cargo to fill the shared box. Where the table shows an FCL door-to-door range, add roughly 7-15 days for LCL.

Do these shipping times include production time?

Yes. Every door-to-door figure in this guide already includes production and packaging (3-15 working days depending on order size, colors and weight), export handling, ocean transit, import customs and inland delivery. Production is the largest swing factor: a repeat order of stock colors is at the low end (3-7 days), while a large or custom-color order is at the high end.

Which ports do you ship ball pit balls to most often?

The most common destinations are the big transshipment and gateway hubs: Singapore, Jebel Ali (Dubai), Rotterdam and Hamburg (North Europe), Los Angeles / Long Beach (US West), Santos (Brazil), Sydney and Melbourne (Australia), and Colombo (South Asia relay). From these hubs cargo is distributed onward to nearby ports and inland cities.

Can I get my ball pit balls faster than sea freight?

Yes. Air freight door-to-door is typically 10-18 days, and express courier is 5-8 days for samples only - but the cost is roughly 5-8x sea. For a fixed-date event (TV shoot, launch, festival) the usual solution is a split shipment: send the quantity you need for the event by air, and the bulk by sea to control cost. See our order-lead-time guide for the full split-shipment playbook.
